January 19th, 2012

First we had sun. Then we had snow. Then we had rain, rain rain! What a mess! There's been some local flooding in the past few days, as it is what happens when we get this much moisture. Hopefully everyone has survived the weather, and your homes have been dry and safe!

Here's what it looks like out at Hytyme:

As you can see from the above pictures, it's been quite damp out at Hytyme. You'll also notice the lack of horses--they're smart enough to stay inside when the Pineapple Express rolls through! If you look closely in some of the pictures, you might see a face or two peeking out into the rain.

For the amount of rain and snow we've had, everything seems to be going just fine (except the stalls have been pretty dirty each day since the horses don't want to venture outside all that much). As you can see, there's a little bit of water in the office area of Barn #1, but it's not so bad. It could be worse!

Spendy is now back in the big field, and she's doing great! Katie and Jim felt sorry for Rosa, who was just hanging out in the rain. She's back inside with Coal now, and Coal gets taken out when it's graining time. Rosa can't share with him! Buddy was being a little unfriendly toward the horses in the big field, so he's in a stall. With all this rain, Jim has been feeding the horses indoors. Now the horses in the big field can come inside without having to worry about Buddy's bossy behavior.

Otherwise, not too much happening out here! It's been really muddy, so not many volunteers have decided to brave the weather and soggy mud. Just the regulars! Doug decided to work on gates while Jim was indoors, and when Jim came back, Doug had done a phenomenal job with repairs! Thanks Doug! Here's his handiwork:
